We work hard to make Cape York Camping feel like a “normal” holiday experience for all our guests, and achieving this in such an isolated area takes significant time, resources, and care. Our approach combines smart technology, efficient infrastructure, and responsible practices to minimise our environmental footprint while maintaining a high level of comfort for our guests. More on our key initiatives below. In addition to our activities, we kindly ask all guests to be conscious of their power and water usage during their stay, as every drop and every watt counts in our remote, off-grid location. By using water wisely, recycling correctly, and disposing of waste responsibly, you’re helping us protect this pristine environment and ensuring our family-owned campground can continue welcoming travellers for years to come.

Our off-grid system blends solar energy with backup diesel generation, reducing fossil fuel use and emissions. Real-time monitoring helps us optimise performance and limit generator run-time.
We use LED lighting, low-energy appliances, and energy-conscious systems across guest facilities, our kitchen, and staff areas.
We recycle, compost food waste, repurpose wastewater for irrigation, and ensure responsible disposal of all general waste.
The Corrugation Bar and Restaurant is supplied with food-grade UV-filtered rainwater collected during the wet season. You are able to fill small personal drink bottles at our designated station during your stay. Our pool, campground and accommodation use a combination of fresh creek water, soak water, and, later in the dry season, bore water. All water sourcing, treatment, and management is handled in-house by our team to ensure quality and sustainability year-round.
Staff and guests are encouraged to conserve energy and water, recycle, and adopt sustainable practices during their stay.
By continually upgrading our systems and adopting new technologies, we’re working towards a greener, more self-sufficient Cape York experience—ensuring the beauty of Punsand Bay is preserved for future generations.
