Cape York Road Conditions. Punsand Bay Cape York Camping is Australia’s most northern address, located just 5km south-west of The Tip (Pajinka). A hot Cape York topic, is what are the road conditions like? The answer to this varies, as does the conditions throughout the season, pending the road crews, weather and time of year. These are our local tips: Always have your headlights on and travel with a CB Radio, using UHF Channel 40 to call ahead when overtaking a vehicle. If you don’t like traffic, avoid travelling in peak times, which is 9am to 4pm. Let others pass on the bitumen if you are slower on the dirt (don’t speed up on the tar so they can’t pass). Always drive to the conditions and take breaks. Take your time, enjoy the adventure!
